2 Days Gorilla Trekking Experience
Overview
This 2-day gorilla trekking safari takes you to Volcanoes National Park, the home of Rwanda’s mountain gorillas. It is a magical lifetime experience where you will encounter gorillas in their natural habitat, observe their behavior, and learn about their way of life. The trip also includes a cultural visit for an insight into Rwanda’s traditional heritage.
Day 1: Gorilla Trekking in Volcanoes National Park
Your adventure begins early in the morning. After an early breakfast, your driver-guide will pick you up at 4:30 AM and transfer you to Volcanoes National Park in the northern part of Rwanda.
On arrival in Musanze, you will head to the park headquarters for a briefing about trekking rules and guidelines. While there, enjoy a cup of Rwandan tea before heading to the starting point of your gorilla trek.
Gorilla trekking can take between 2 to 6 hours, depending on the gorillas’ movements and the pace of your group. Once you find them, you will spend one hour in the presence of the gorillas, observing them as they feed, groom, and play. This is a truly unforgettable wildlife encounter.
After the trek, return to the starting point and enjoy lunch at a local restaurant. In the afternoon, visit the Iby’Iwacu Cultural Village to experience traditional Rwandan culture, music, and dance. Later, check in at your lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.
Accommodation Options:
- Mid-range: Mountain Gorilla View Lodge
- Standard: La Palme Hotel
Day 2: Golden Monkey Trekking & Transfer Back to Kigali
After breakfast, your driver-guide will transfer you back to the park headquarters. Meet your ranger for a briefing before beginning your golden monkey trekking adventure.
Golden monkeys are playful and fascinating primates found in the bamboo forests of Volcanoes National Park. Trekking to find them follows a similar procedure to gorilla trekking but is generally less demanding. Once you locate them, you will spend one hour observing their interactions and behaviors.
After trekking, return to the starting point, enjoy lunch at a local restaurant, and begin your journey back to Kigali, where you will be dropped off at your hotel.
