2 Days Chimpanzee Trekking in Nyungwe National Park

Overview

This 2-day Nyungwe adventure takes you deep into one of Africa’s oldest rainforests, Nyungwe National Park, home to 13 primate species, rich biodiversity, and breathtaking landscapes. Highlights of this trip include chimpanzee trekking, a canopy walk on Africa’s longest suspended bridge, and a cultural stop at the Royal Palace Museum.

Day 1: Transfer to Nyungwe via Huye & Royal Palace Museum

Your driver-guide will pick you up from your hotel in Kigali at 8:00 AM for a scenic drive to Nyungwe National Park, approximately 5 hours away. En route, stop in Huye for lunch, and visit the Royal Palace Museum in Nyanza to gain insights into Rwanda’s traditional leadership and heritage.

You will arrive at Nyungwe in the late afternoon, check in at your lodge, enjoy dinner, and overnight stay surrounded by the lush forest.

Day 2: Chimpanzee Trekking & Canopy Walk, Transfer to Kigali

After an early breakfast, transfer to the park headquarters for a briefing before starting your chimpanzee trekking experience. Nyungwe is home to over 500 chimpanzees, and once you find them, you’ll spend one hour observing their behavior, from foraging to grooming and playful interactions.

Later, proceed to the iconic canopy walk, a 90-meter-long suspended bridge offering breathtaking views of the forest from above. This unique experience allows you to spot primates, birds, and the park’s diverse flora.

Afterwards, you will return to Kigali, arriving in the evening. Drop-off will be at your hotel or the airport.
